Contact The Elderly
Do You Have a Warm Heart and a Big Teapot?
Would you host a tea party, for a small group of Monmouth elderly people, in your own home, just once a year?
Contact the Elderly is a charity which aims to help alleviate the loneliness felt by elderly people who live alone, by taking them out to Sunday afternoon tea. In Monmouth, the group meets once a month, from 3.00 pm till 5.30 pm, visiting a different volunteer host each month. For elderly people who live alone, and find it hard to get out and about, it makes a huge difference to be taken out to enjoy a chat and a cuppa. Volunteer drivers pick up the elderly guests, and go along with them to the tea party.
Peggy, who recently joined a Contact group as a guest said: “You have no idea what it means to me. I'm beginning to feel human again. For a small group of people to meet in someone's home…it makes me feel as if I belong to a family. I've lived alone for over 40 years and miss all my friends and relatives so much. Bless you all for your kindness and thought for those who are all alone.”
Would you host a tea party in your own home, just once a year? Or would you help with the driving, once a month, (or less often, as a reserve driver)? Or maybe you would help the group with fundraising. Whatever you can do would be very much appreciated.
Just a little of your time will make a very big difference.
